My son Sam brought home some tadpoles the other day.

Boys and critters… gotta love it.

We are currently housing a lizard, a homemade ant habitat, meal-worms, tons of fish, and some dust bunnies.  Lucky for Sam, I’m okay with a house full of God’s creation.

These tadpoles are pretty cool, though.  Watching them change into frogs has been quite an event in our house.

They’ve been slowly losing their tails.

At the same time, they are growing legs.

Their eyes have migrated from the side of their heads to the top.

And any day now, they are going to fully become the frogs that God created them to be.

You know what?  We can learn from this process.

Once we accept Jesus, we start to evolve ourselves.

As Christ saturates our lives, we begin to slowly change into the women we were created to be.

We begin to experience life-altering changes in the foundation of who we are.

  • We release things we don’t need to hold on to anymore.
  • We find solid footing, no longer needing to swim in the world’s current.
  • The position of our eyes changes and we see life from a different perspective.

God allows situations and circumstances to change us.

Why?  Because where we are in life isn’t working.

And God loves us too much to leave us there.

He makes us a sweet promise in Philippians 1:6.

“And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.” (Amplified)

God is well aware of who we are supposed to be… and He will keep molding and chiseling and forming us into that creation.

We will become transformed.

How does He create this change?

  • God will develop our patience by bringing us into relationship with those who test our last nerve.
  • He will mold us into wise women by asking us to navigate difficult situations.
  • We will become humble through knee-bending circumstances that make us face our pride.

Lord, help us.

Father, give us grace for the journey.

Many in the Bible actually thanked God while in the midst of these white-knuckle times… because they knew God was doing necessary work in them.  They knew these trials were going to make them better… stronger… and wiser on the other side.

They learned to trust God – His intentions and motives.

Was it hard to do?  Probably.

Was it painful?  I would guess.

Did it require tremendous prayer and support?  You bet.

But on the other side… once they looked back to see where they had come from… once they took a look at who they had become through it… they were grateful for the change.

God loved them too much to leave them where they were.

Sisters, He loves you just as much.

You know, I bet those tadpoles felt some growing pains.  They probably wondered just what was happening when legs began to grow and their tails began to disappear.  Think about the odd feeling of breathing air when they were used to water.

Transformation pulls us from the familiar.

Sisters, as we walk through those times of change, we might experience the same pain, disbelief, confusion and shift in atmosphere as those tadpoles.

But when God’s work is complete, we will look at Him and humbly say… “Thank you, Father.”

We will praise His faithfulness for moving us one step closer to who we were made to be.

REALITY CHECK:  God loves you too much to leave you were you are.  His desire is to transform you into the woman He created you to be.  Let Him.  Choose to be part of the process rather than part of the problem.

Friends, you totally encouraged me with your words of support yesterday.  And your prayers were felt more than you realize.  Thank you for taking my family before the throne to the only One who can heal.

In the midst of the bully situation, God gave me a phrase to share with my son.  And in the shower yesterday, He told me to share it with you.  So here you go…

Sisters, you are loved for who you are… not what you do.

Don’t brush it off.  Before you move on, repeat it to yourself in first person – out loud.  “I am loved for who I am… not what I do.” Now again, boldly.  Like you mean it.

God loves you for you.  Now the world won’t always feel that way, but God always does.  There is nothing you can do more of or less of to change that.

You are loved for WHO you are…

  • Not for how your house is decorated
  • Not for the successes you’ve tucked under your belt
  • Not for the kind of mother or wife you are
  • Not for the degree of your domestic goddess-ness
  • Not for all the scripture you’ve memorized or Bible studies you’ve led

No, sweet friends.  Just because of who you are.

Oh how I needed to hear that today!  What a generous Father to love us completely and perfectly.  Knowing that calms me.  You? What a gift.

I wonder, then, why so many of us struggle to believe that truth.  I’m certain that deep-down, you want to believe it.  Many of you pray to God asking Him to help you do just that.

But in reality, it’s a concept that just doesn’t seem to stick.

Why?

Because the Enemy is doing everything he can do keep that truth from you.  And the longer he can keep you on that endless performance-based roller coaster, the better.  Oh I am in fightin’ mode today!

But friends, you have the ability to choose where your value lies.  You get to decide how your worth is defined.

  • Will you let the world tell you that you’re loved and valued because of what you have or what you do?
  • Or will you accept the truth that you’re loved simply because you’re a child of God, and because of what Jesus did on the cross, your identity rests in Him?

It’s your choice.  You get to choose.  But there is a very convincing argument.

“Then Christ will live in you through faith. I also pray that love may be the ground into which you sink your roots and on which you have your foundation.  This way, with all of God’s people you will be able to understand how wide, long, high, and deep His love is.” (Ephesians 3:18)

In other words, His love for you is only because of who you are… not what you do.  And it’s endless.

Do I hear an amen in the house?

p.s.  Today is Sam’s first day at his new school.  If he crosses your mind, I would appreciate a prayer for confidence, acceptance and for fast friendships to develop.
