Praying scripture is a powerful tool.

Hebrews 4:12 says that God’s Word is alive and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword. When we speak and pray the Scriptures, we are coming into agreement with God that it is indeed a powerful tool for a believer.

A benefit of praying scripture is that we will increase our spiritual growth because we learn what God says about certain situations.  We’ll see how He wants us to act or trust.  His Word will provide a road map on handling difficult people.

There are so many different things you can pray for!

  • You can pray in adoration of God or for protection over your family.
  • There are scriptures to pray for healing of an illness or restoration for a marriage.
  • You can pray the Word over those who need Jesus and for others who need to return to Him.
  • You can pray for a wayward child or answers for a difficult situation.
  • You can ask God to shift a situation or impart wisdom and discernment.

It’s our handbook for life… It’s all in there.

So, how do you do pray scripture?

Here are some suggestions:

  • Pray the scripture out loud.  By doing this, you are speaking God’s will into existence.   Of course He will hear you if you pray silently, but hearing the Word helps your faith increase.  Why?  Because there is power in the spoken Word.
  • Pray with someone who is seasoned.  If you are new to this, consider praying with someone who you know prays the scripture.  It will help you get the flow and sound of it and you will sense the anointing of it.
  • Make it personal… Put “I” and “me” into it.  Add you into the scripture.  Personalize it like this,  “May the Lord direct your hearts my heart to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.“  (2 Thessalonians 3:5)
  • Insert someone elses name into the Scripture.  Add “them” or “he” or “she” when praying for others.  You can also just speak their name(s).  Again… personalize it!  “The LORD gives strength to His people daughter Jane; the LORD blesses His people her with peace.“  (Psalm 29:11)
  • Pray God’s Word back to Him. This will lead you into sincere worship.  Speak these out and feel your spirit connect in a profound way.
    • Lord Most High, it is good to praise your name. I’ll shout about Your love this morning and Your faithfulness tonight! You, O Lord, are exalted forever. You are my Rock. You are holy and righteous!” (Psalm 92)
    • I praise You, Lord! All creation praises You, for You created everything. Your splendor is greater than anything on the earth or in heaven.” (Psalm 148)

Sisters… when you struggle to know what to pray for… or can’t find words… open your Bibles and pray God’s Word.

Not sure where to look?

Go online and search for scripture at Biblegateway… or OpenBible… or google “scripture about______.

And if you need a faith-builder throughout your journey, keep a prayer journal.

It allows you to see what issue you were praying about… what specific scripture you prayed… and when/how it was answered.

God’s Word is powerful and alive, and available for us to use!

Dig in… and speak out.

“Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval.” 2 Timothy 3:16 (GWT)

The Bible is true.  All of it.

Some translations replace the word “inspired” with “God-breathed“… meaning God breathed into man what man breathed out.

And since God is incapable of lying or exaggerating the truth, we must accept and believe the Bible is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

  • It’s not a collection of stories.
  • It’s not mythical in nature.
  • It’s not full of fables passed down through generations.
  • The Bible isn’t authored by mortals filled with human ideas and concepts.

No.  The Bible is a Divine Revelation.

Did you know that our Bible is composed of 66 books, by about 40 different and diverse writers, over a period of about 1,600 years?  And despite that, the same message of God’s sovereignty, Jesus’ sacrifice and the Holy Spirit’s indwelling and leading is consistent in its pages.

While human hands may have penned it, these believers were merely the vessels which God used to create this amazing collection of messages for His children.   And although written hundreds of years ago, the Bible remains the most up-to-date book available today.

Think about it.  Books on every subject have to be replaced because they become out-of-date so quickly. But the Bible has never had to be revised.

Why?  Because God’s Word is alive and active.  It is still relevant today!

Do you believe ALL the Bible or do you pick and choose the parts to hold on to?  You can’t be in both camps… you have to pick one.

When we chose to only believe one part or another, we are essentially calling God a liar.  We’re showing a lack of trust in the one who gave us life.  We are telling God we know better.

Yikes!  Does that scare anyone else but me?

So often, I hear people say they agree with one part but have a hard time with another part.

  • They know they should tithe, but should they really trust God with all their finances?
  • Others believe in the power of prayer, but decide some things are better in their control.
  • They believe that there was a Garden of Eden, but they entertain the Big Bang theory.

There is no middle ground.  Either you choose to believe the Word of God is the entire truth… or you believe none of it as truth.

Which will it be?
