Praying scripture is a powerful tool.

Hebrews 4:12 says that God’s Word is alive and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword. When we speak and pray the Scriptures, we are coming into agreement with God that it is indeed a powerful tool for a believer.

A benefit of praying scripture is that we will increase our spiritual growth because we learn what God says about certain situations.  We’ll see how He wants us to act or trust.  His Word will provide a road map on handling difficult people.

There are so many different things you can pray for!

  • You can pray in adoration of God or for protection over your family.
  • There are scriptures to pray for healing of an illness or restoration for a marriage.
  • You can pray the Word over those who need Jesus and for others who need to return to Him.
  • You can pray for a wayward child or answers for a difficult situation.
  • You can ask God to shift a situation or impart wisdom and discernment.

It’s our handbook for life… It’s all in there.

So, how do you do pray scripture?

Here are some suggestions:

  • Pray the scripture out loud.  By doing this, you are speaking God’s will into existence.   Of course He will hear you if you pray silently, but hearing the Word helps your faith increase.  Why?  Because there is power in the spoken Word.
  • Pray with someone who is seasoned.  If you are new to this, consider praying with someone who you know prays the scripture.  It will help you get the flow and sound of it and you will sense the anointing of it.
  • Make it personal… Put “I” and “me” into it.  Add you into the scripture.  Personalize it like this,  “May the Lord direct your hearts my heart to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.“  (2 Thessalonians 3:5)
  • Insert someone elses name into the Scripture.  Add “them” or “he” or “she” when praying for others.  You can also just speak their name(s).  Again… personalize it!  “The LORD gives strength to His people daughter Jane; the LORD blesses His people her with peace.“  (Psalm 29:11)
  • Pray God’s Word back to Him. This will lead you into sincere worship.  Speak these out and feel your spirit connect in a profound way.
    • Lord Most High, it is good to praise your name. I’ll shout about Your love this morning and Your faithfulness tonight! You, O Lord, are exalted forever. You are my Rock. You are holy and righteous!” (Psalm 92)
    • I praise You, Lord! All creation praises You, for You created everything. Your splendor is greater than anything on the earth or in heaven.” (Psalm 148)

Sisters… when you struggle to know what to pray for… or can’t find words… open your Bibles and pray God’s Word.

Not sure where to look?

Go online and search for scripture at Biblegateway… or OpenBible… or google “scripture about______.

And if you need a faith-builder throughout your journey, keep a prayer journal.

It allows you to see what issue you were praying about… what specific scripture you prayed… and when/how it was answered.

God’s Word is powerful and alive, and available for us to use!

Dig in… and speak out.

It’s Tuesday, which can only mean one thing!  I am posting my devotional over at CWAHM.  You can get to it by clicking here.

Today’s devo is packed with scripture references because I’m sharing the importance of praying these life-giving words over your children.  I’m providing you with a long list of Biblical addresses that will cover a variety of your kid’s situations and needs.

It’s battle at its finest.

You know what?  You should be praying scripture over every part of your life:  health, wealth, relationships, struggles, etc.  Although the Bible was written a long time ago, it is still completely relevant today.  It’s the living Word and it holds great wisdom for life today… and tomorrow.

The Bible is essentially our owner’s manual for everything… and it’s words are God-breathed, powerful and inspiring.

And when you pray scripture over someone, you are praying in agreement with God.  You’re not just praying TO Him, you’re praying WITH Him.

What better gift can you give your children than a parent who prays over them with intention and purpose, using God’s Word?

There isn’t one.

It is so hard to watch your children struggle.

Sometimes the best course of action is to let them work it out themselves.  Other times there is a tough lesson to be learned.  Many times, you stand back because you want to see how they will handle it.

But sometimes you intervene.

I’m in the middle of intervention.  One of my kids is severely struggling with his peers and my heart is broken!  Oh how it takes every ounce of energy and emotion I have.

While we are actively dealing with it and making positive changes to improve the situation, it has brought me to my knees.  And I’ve come to understand what a blessing that is.

You see, prayer is the most powerful tool we have in our arsenal.  And when we pray scripture, we up the ante because we’re told in Hebrews 4:12 that the word of God is living and full of power.

I need that power about now.  You, too?

Because I know many of you are moms, grandmothers, aunts, God-mothers, moms-to-be, I want to equip you with scripture to pray over those special little people in your lives.

Isaiah 54:13 – That they are taught of the Lord
Proverbs 13:1 – For the fruit of godly instruction and correction
Proverbs 2:6 – For counsel and wisdom in bringing up our children
1 Peter 1:14-15 – To not conform to the things of the flesh
1 Peter 2:2 – To desire the pure milk of the Word
James 1:19 – To be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger
Hebrews 13:5 – To be content with what they have
James 1:22 – To be doers of the Word and not just hearers
Philemon 1:6 – To be effectively sharing their faith
2 Timothy 1:7 – To not have a spirit of fear
2 Timothy 4:18 – To be delivered from every evil work
2 Timothy 2:22 – To flee from the evil desires of youth
James 3:10 – To keep curses from their mouths
1 John 5:18 – To keep them safe from the Enemy
Psalm 91:11 – For angels to accompany, defend, preserve
Psalm 4:8 – To provide safety for them, day and night
1 John 2:15 – To keep them from loving the world or the things in it
1 John 1:7 – That they walk in the light as You are in the Light
James 4:8 – To cleanse their hands and purify their hearts
2 Timothy 2:22 – To follow after righteousness, faith, love, and peace
Hebrews 13:18 – To have a good conscience and a desire to live honorably
Proverbs 3:4 – To have favor and high esteem with God and man

Oh sisters, spend time praying over your children! You’re not only wielding a sword on their behalf, but you are also learning what God says about certain situations.  This helps increase intimacy with your true Protector.

Print this out and pray a few scriptures over them each night while they are sleeping.  Once the list is complete, start again.  Add to this list as God reveals additional scripture for you.

Friends, I’m in battle for my children.  I’m encouraging you to be in battle for yours.

If you don’t fight for them, who will?
