Posts Tagged ‘We have authority over Enemy’

Why do we allow Satan’s voice to interrupt our joy so easily?

I wonder…

How many times have you walked out of Bible study where you just had 2 hours of God’s love and truth poured into your thirsty hearts and spirits, and you started feeling oogie about the comment you shared in group.

Or when was the last time you were jammin’ to some Christian tunes and an ugly thought popped into your head about the fight you had that morning and suddenly, you’re angry again.

What about when you walked to your car after a great church service and noticed that the woman walking in front of you looked 10x better than you do in those jeans, and suddenly you felt ugly and unlovable.

Dang it, dang it, dang it!

I know the Truth, but some days it can be so easily wiped away with… a lie.

To be honest, I am tired of entertaining these negative messages that have been strategically designed to take me out of the game.  You, too?

Luckily, God offers us a solution.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  2 Corinthians 10:5

We do it.

We are the ones who have to be intentional in stopping that train of thought.  Sisters, it’s us.  You and me.  But just how do we do that?

  • When those self-loathing thoughts try to land, speak out loud who you are in Christ. (Ephesians 1:3-8)
  • When you are bombarded by messages that you are not valuable, remind yourself you are established by God. (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
  • When you feel unaccepted, remember that you are God’s child. (John 1:12)
  • When your friends seem few and far between and you are lonely, know that you are a friend of Jesus. (John 15:15)
  • When you believe you can’t do it, know that with Him you can do anything. (Philippians 4:13)

The biggest battlefield is our mind.  And when we allow our thought-life to spiral out of control… when we entertain the Enemy’s lies about who we are… we are setting ourselves up for certain disaster.

We need to counteract those lies with the Truth.

Truths like…

I am significant, valuable and important.

What I think, need and want matters.

I am loved and accepted.

Listen… don’t allow the author of lies to steal your joy another day.

When his fiery arrows fly your direction, counterattack by speaking these truths out loud.  Recite Scripture.  Pray for perspective.

When you do… the Enemy will fail and you will prevail.

Game over.

REALITY CHECK:  Protect your thought-life from the lies of the Enemy.  He’s out to destroy your joy.

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.  (Romans 16:20)

One of the strongest weapons in your arsenal is peace.

And the Enemy knows it.

He wants to not only ruin your life, but also to get you in such a tizzy that you’re in a constant state of chaos.  In his estimation, if he can keep you freaked out and fearful you won’t have the energy to fight back.

You’ll be your own worst enemy.

It’s a good plan, actually.  How many times have you been so overwhelmed or angry or scared about a situation that you just gave up?  You waved the white flag of surrender.  You found yourself paralyzed, unable to make a move.

When things come at me in warp speed, I sometimes find myself sucked into a whirlpool of self-pity.  Rather than rising above my circumstances, I am eye-to-eye with them.  And when that happens, I feel anything but peaceful.

Score one for the Enemy.

But when we maintain a sense of peace, trusting God in our circumstances, we punch Satan in the gut.

  • When we refuse to freak out when oppression comes our way…
  • When we are unshakable in our faith that God will provide…
  • When we speak His truths and promises over our situation…

… Satan loses.

Score one for us.

Because of Christ in us, we have authority over the Enemy.  Wait… I didn’t hear an “amen” so maybe you didn’t hear me.  Let me say it again…

WE have AUTHORITY over the Enemy!

And when we show peace in the face of adversity, we prove it.

How do we do that?  How do we show that kind of peace?  It’s simple.  We refuse to see our struggles with human ears and eyes.  Instead, we see them as opportunities for God to rock our world.

We trust that God is who He says He is.  And we believe that God will do what His Word says He’ll do… which is to crush the Enemy under our feet.

Translation?  We win.

Yes, sisters… peace is a mighty weapon, indeed.

Use it.
